Cant we all just get along?
There's a reason for that, that place is a hellhole.
I don't know about crutchfield, but Telemed is usually always hiring, Sykes too. Pretty much all of those places, restaurants, stores etc. are hiring...there's always jobs around here, not great paying ones, but we don't have it too bad with it like other places.
I used to work at the sawmill when Mullican owned it...they had a high turnover ratio no doubt...but that job would keep you in shape, and would make you strong as a horse if you weren't already.. I actually liked stacking lumber tho except when it was dead of winter on night shift or middle of summer on day shift (cuz the extremes of freezing or roasting could make that job miserable). I've always thought the flooring plant would be a pretty good job tho...the thing about that place that will drive away lots of the younger folk is the fact that up there you actually have to WORK...lol. They still give the production bonuses at Mullican? Those were nice too. I wish the sawmills would hire summer workers cuz if they did I'd stack for at least a month of my summer break every year.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
no, they dropped our production bonus, quit matching our 401k, we do get a decent safety bonus (works on a lottery system though) we have good insurance and decent pay, thats about it. R13, when did you work up there? ive been there for 5 years altogether and never considered it a hellhole. the upper management is horrible but our direct supervisors are all good people. I usually help with the grading classes. the only thing about it is that you have to work if you show up and most people cant handle that.

When I was at the mill they had just started the 401k thing and the production bonuses were fairly new too. The safety bonus was given to every worker tho who had been there throughout the period we were getting rewarded for. Anybody who thinks the flooring plant is a hellhole wouldn't want none of the mill..lol. That's funny.

My stepdad worked there for 10/11 and his brother 11+ years. Low pay, bad working conditions and that bad management...I didn't mean everyone who works up there is bad or something, a lot of nice people. At that time they did get the bonus and insurance was okay, he hardly missed and was never late - points equal no bonus. Someone gets hurt there often, not so much minor but it's a **** job through and through. They both work in the mines now, nothing wrong with their work ethic, that's just a bad place to work.
we just went 362 days without an accident so i dont know where you got your info from... i also make right at 12 dollars an hour and we get about 45 hours a week. the pay is great for this area. the only bad thing about it is upper management. and thats just because they never keep a steady supply of wood to us and they do their inventory based on how much they THINK we can sale. the working conditions arent really horrible either. if you are hot turn on a fan, if you are cold wear something warm. the dust gets bad at times but most everyone knows how to fix a dust pipe. it really isnt that bad anymore. there are a lot of things that need to be worked out (upper management) but i would suggest it to anyone. easy work, its steady work but very very easy. no thinking involved in it unless you grade or are a finish sawyer, the knotsawyers make decent money and just saw wood, nothing else to it.

And I said minor injuries, not talking losing a finger or something, but minor injuries happen there all the time. He worked there over 10 years and never really got higher than 13, that's terrible in any area. It's gotten better over the years, since he started, but that places comes off as a restaurant...only a few should make a career out of it. Lol knot sawing isn't that easy, you're on your feet all the time (sounds easy, but after years of it, it takes a major toll on you), boards kick back and knock the hell out of you, dust gets pretty bad etc. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone longer than a few years if that, not even the "easy" jobs.
Physically, the flooring plant is pie compared to what working at the sawmill was like. If you weren't mentally psyched and bustin your a$$, you would very easily get hurt there. It didn't happen often, but when it did, it was usually a doozy. But, Rocky, you're right, $13 bucks an hour isn't bad for around here...bout the only job that is better in this area than Mullican (and I'm talking about jobs that don't require a degree) is working in the mines.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
we have a 63 year old woman that knot saws, you telling me it aint easy and you have never done it. its easy as ****. if a 63 year old woman does it, any man can do it. why are you arguing over something you dont know about man. haha the LOL knot sawying isnt easy was the best. why argue over something you havent done before? boards kick back..... on the knot saws??? the boards have nothing to kick back on the knot saws man, they come down a belt. there used to be a temple system set up but thats been gone for YEARS. no boards can kick back on the knot saws. dont get me wrong i hate working there because i had the chance to be somewhere else, but dont talk down about the place if you have no experience at all there.
